Exploring the Town of Lucerne Valley

In addition to the fantastic skiing and amazing hiking trails near Big Bear, there are also a couple of sites that animal lovers might want to check out: Big Bear Discovery Center and Big Bear Alpine Zoo. The Discovery Center gives an excellent introduction to the wildlife in the area, making it a good first stop before trekking into the wilderness – always be prepared. The Alpine Zoo is a little different from your typical zoo experience in that all the animals there are orphaned or rescued and the purpose of the facility is to rehabilitate them before being released back into the wild.
