Moss Landing KOA Express

If you want to include scenic vistas in your activities, head for Pacheco State Park just northeast of Moss Landing, which is open to the public year-round from early morning to sunset. The park is the last remaining portion of one of the Spanish land grants that was family owned until 1992; at that time, it was donated to be used as a park. It's a popular spot for hiking and mountain biking, with trails that loop and interconnect so you can enjoy short, medium, or long hikes. The park has grassy slopes with blooming wildflowers in the spring; it also has historical features such as an old shack that belonged to rancher Henry Miller, train tracks, and an original adobe that belonged to the previous owners. If you head north from Moss Landing in your rental RV, you will find Sierra Azul Preserve. This natural and undisturbed area is close to many urban settlements making it a popular destination for hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. One of the highest peaks in the Santa Cruz mountain range, Mount Umunhum is located within the preserve. While enjoying the park, you will observe serpentine grasslands, bay tree stands, and shaded oak forests. If you would like a more intense workout, consider hiking the deep ravines which have seasonal or year-round creeks. There is an abundance of wildlife but some species, such as the mountain lions, should be observed from a distance. Want to get really elevated? Take your motorhome rental and head straight east to Fremont Peak State Park. From here, you can see all the way to Monterey Bay; you'll also have spectacular views of the San Benito and Salinas Valleys, and the Santa Lucia Mountains east of Big Sur. There are picnic facilities where you can have a meal, an observatory that is open on select evenings, and pine and oak woodlands where you can hike and observe the native birds and mammals.
