Oak Park is a suburb of Los Angeles City, located in Ventura County, California. It is an unincorporated community that began as a cattle ranching area until land prices went up and the area was earmarked for development as “Oak Park”. As of 1967, there was only one road, Kanan Road, that led into the area that would become Oak Park. ZIP codes came into existence at roughly the same time as Oak Park, which was initially given the same code as Agoura (which later became Agoura City) in Los Angeles County; this created many problems with taxes, land deeds, and insurance rates until Oak Park was given its own distinct ZIP code on January 1, 1999. Today Oak Park appears to be one of the most desirable communities to live in, with several shopping malls and all the other amenities one would expect to find.

Book an RV in Ventura County and you are ready to explore this part of Southern California in comfort and style. There are other cities of note that might be worth spending some time in. Santa Clarita is home to the oldest still-operating restaurant in Los Angeles County and the oldest existing oil refinery in the world. Glendale Central Library has a history room dedicated to the city, with books available for browsing or upon request (none of these are available for borrowing & access is by appointment). Santa Monica was initially conceived by two men who dreamed of building a prosperous shipping port but the natural beauty of the area led to it becoming a beach resort instead. Oxnard was named after its founder's family after Henry T. Oxnard tried unsuccessfully to name the town after the Greek word for “sugar” (apparently state bureaucrats weren't listening). Camarillo airport, constructed in 1942 by the California State Highway Department, was extended from 5,000 to 8,000 feet in 1951 as a response to the emerging Cold War. Rent an Oak Park travel trailer rental and you are on your way to exploring these and other areas first hand.

The Great Outdoors

Point Mugu State Park is a natural preserve recreational area with shoreline and beaches, two river canyons, wide grassy valleys, and much more. It is the perfect place for water and desert activities such as swimming and body surfing, hiking, and nature watching. Bring your camera and expect to see sycamore, oak, and walnut trees, rocky bluffs, and a variety of animal life. Your Oak Park RV trailer rental makes the perfect photography blind for that perfect photo.

Topanga State Park is an area of open grassland and oak trees surrounded by the cliffs and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountain range. It has breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and is open to hikers and horseback riders; mountain bikers are allowed to ride on fire roads. Visitors will observe earthquake faults, volcanic intrusions, and other sedimentary formations. Marine fossil imprints can also be seen in the rock. It is considered one of the world's largest wildlands contained within city limits (Los Angeles).

Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve is a former ranch that became public parkland in 2003. Hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians are welcome to explore the park that features rolling hills, canyon bottoms, and undisturbed California landscapes. Valley oak trees dominate the hillsides while stands of sycamore trees line the canyons. The parkland is part of a critical ecological linkage connecting the Santa Monica Mountains and northern ranges and serves as a wildlife corridor for the resident animal species.

RV Parks

There is an abundance of RV parks and campgrounds near Oak Park that are run privately or by state or federal agencies. Your Oak Park motorhome rental and the available campgrounds are the combination to a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

Oak Park, Simi Valley has an RV park with restrooms, picnic tables, and fire rings. Individual sites have asphalt pads. Activities include a volleyball and basketball court, horseshoe pitch, and a playground for young children. It is a rustic spot with water and electrical hookups.

Malibu Beach RV Park is open all year round and the sites have either a mountain or an ocean view. The park has restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and a campground store where you can stock up on supplies or find RV parts. A community area has activities such as billiards and ping pong, a tv room, and more. Individual sites have picnic tables. There are some tent sites but most of the sites are for RVs.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to see and do in and around Oak Park. Kids will especially enjoy the theme parks and entertainment centers; one of the centers is a laser tag role-playing adventure (think no more painful paintballs). There are libraries where you can pass a quiet afternoon and gardens where you can take a peaceful stroll amongst fragrant plants. Water enthusiasts can rent paddle boards or take lessons if it is their first time. A number of ranches offer an authentic Western experience and at least one offers horse rides. Park your Oak Park camper rental nearby for a relaxing post-activity coffee.

Oak Park and the surrounding area is just as rewarding when it comes to restaurants and dining out. Patrons can choose from Italian and Mediterranean, Japanese and Chinese, and more. One restaurant that specializes in New Zealand cuisine (and you won't see that very often) is open for brunch and dinner and has an outdoor patio. If you make it here, try the rack of elk rib with truffle fries. Portions are big, so smaller appetites might want to go for the blue cheese cauliflower soup.

You also have the option of takeout, enjoyed in the peace and quiet of your Oak Park luxury RV rental, or putting together your own feast in said vehicle. The choices are endless, so follow your instincts and you can't go wrong.
