For starters, the 18 miles of trails meander through the rugged basin where you’ll get to see giant redwoods along with live oak and Douglas fir. One of the most scenic trails in the park is the Sequoia Nature Trail which makes its way along the Pescadero Creek. Keep a keen eye out for wildlife, and if lucky, you’ll spot some deer, raccoons, and coyotes. If you’re feeling more adventurous, try the arduous trek towards the remarkable Peters Creek. Your kids will be amazed at the sheer size of some of the trees at Portola Redwoods State Park so take them for a mile-long hike to the giant redwood grove that dates back more than 1200 years.
