In the heart of Salinas Valley in Monterey County, you can book an RV in San Lucas, California. This small village only has a few hundred people, and its small-town charm is part of its appeal. The town is named for the Rancho San Lucas Land Grant that first granted permission for development back when California was still in Mexico’s possession. The post office was established in 1892, six years after the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad.

San Lucas is hardly a tourism-heavy destination, with no real attractions to speak of, but when you book an RV rental in San Lucas, you are really doing so to gain access to the incredible outdoors that California has come to be known for. You can take your San Lucas motorhome rental out to visit the beaches on the Pacific coast or camp up in the mountains to the east. Cities like San Francisco, San Jose, and Fresno are quite easy to reach in a matter of hours when you rent an RV and take a road trip. No matter what you decide to do, central California will find a way to enchant you.

Outdoors Adventures

It's no secret that California is an outdoor paradise for nature enthusiasts. No matter where you choose to visit and rent an RV, you are sure to have an amazing and unforgettable adventure. The San Antonio Recreation Area, for instance, is located south of town on Lake San Antonio, providing you with a space to cool off and go for a swim. This recreation area is a delightful place to camp out in your San Lucas camper rental, with scenic views of the lake, a marina, some restaurants, a supply store, and much more.

If you feel like seeing some of California’s pristine coastlines, Garrapata State Park has what you are looking for. There are miles of beachfront access in this divine little park, along with peaceful hiking paths meandering through the groves of redwood trees. From high atop the rugged rocky cliffs, you can watch the migration of sea lions and gray whales just off the coast.

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is one of the largest and most popular state parks in all of California, and it's close to San Lucas. The park has often been referred to as “Little Yosemite” in honor of the iconic Yosemite National Park, which speaks volumes about the state park’s beauty. Towering redwood trees dot the sloping hills that slip into the sea, and hiking trails wind their way from the waterfront to the backcountry areas in the rugged, mountainous portions of the park. You can stay in a large hotel lodge at the park, or opt to relax at one of the campgrounds in your San Lucas camper rental.

One of the country’s newest additions to the national park system is located less than an hour's drive north of town, so bringing your San Lucas RV rental is a fantastic idea. Pinnacles National Park is most widely known for its mountainous forests and excellent rock climbing, with several epic geological features found in different parts of the area. You can explore caves, hike to the top of mountain summits, and you can even see the San Andreas Fault from high above when you visit this unbelievable national park.

RV Parks to Visit

Locating a safe and comfortable place to camp overnight when you rent an RV in San Lucas will most likely be the easiest thing to plan during your trip. Places like San Antonio Recreation Area, San Lorenzo County Park, and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park are all quality spots to visit and camp, particularly if you like rustic camping experiences.

San Benito RV & Camping Resort is located to the north near Pinnacles National Park and offers a lot of amenities. There are sports courts, a large clubhouse, a swimming pool, hiking trails, mini golf, a spa, and a restaurant all located on the campus.

Yanks RV Resort is another place to stay for a few nights, with resort amenities for guests to utilize. There are pull-through sites for the largest recreational vehicles to fit comfortably, as well as a heated swimming pool, a spa, a pet exercise park, a fitness center, and working spaces.

City Sightseeing

Again, San Lucas is not the sort of place you visit with the intention of seeing large attractions, but if you need to get some urban exposure, there are plenty of nearby cities and town centers you can visit with the San Lucas camper rental. Monterey County Agricultural & Rural Life Museum is found in the adjacent King City, a short drive to the north. This incredible resource strives to enlighten the general public when it comes to history, with several different historic buildings on site. The Exhibit Barn, the La Gloria Schoolhouse, the Olson Blacksmith Shop, and the King City Train Depot are a few of the fascinating buildings you can tour while you visit and learn about the history of Monterey County.

If you continue north to Salinas, you will find more points of interest, and a lively town center bustling with tourists. Fans of the author John Steinbeck will love to know that Salinas was his home for many years, and there are museums and historical homes in town associated with the celebrated American author. You can take a tour of his old Victorian house to see where he once lived while working on his literary classics. The National Steinbeck Center further delves into the life and works of Steinbeck, with priceless artifacts, informative exhibitions, and live theater performances.

The Monterey Zoo is a more family-friendly attraction, with over a hundred exotic animals that you can view and even interact with. The zoo is much smaller than places like the San Diego Zoo, with a more intimate atmosphere and more of a focus on conservation and rehabilitation.
