Baden is a small town in the Waterloo Regional Municipality in the Province of Ontario. It was first settled in around the 1850s by Jacob Beck, who opened flour, saw and flax mills in the town over a period of 20 years. Jacob was originally from the town of Baden-Baden in Germany, and this is how the town got its name.

The town is just a few miles west of the city of Kitchener, while the nearest large city is Hamilton on the shores of Lake Ontario. The terrain here is rolling farmland, broken up by rivers, lakes and small forests. When you book an RV in Baden, you have a beautiful scenic area with many lakes and woods to explore, plus of course, the Great Lakes are never far away.

Exploring the City

Baden is home to Castle Kilbride, a Victorian home built in 1877 by Scottish entrepreneur James Livingston. It was named after Livingstone’s home town of East Kilbride and lavishly decorated internally. Various Trompe l'oeil ceiling and wall murals decorate the interior that gives the impression of being three-dimensional. The term Trompe l'oeil is French for “tricks of the eye." The house is now designated as a national historic site and open to the public. It’s definitely worth a visit when you rent an RV in Baden.

In Baden is the Sir Adam Beck Community Park, named after the founder of Ontario’s public hydro-electric system, who was also born in the town. The park offers a range of sports fields, skateboard parks, playgrounds, and washrooms. For a relaxing afternoon, you’ll also find picnic areas with picnic tables.

If you happen to be in the area in August, then definitely check out the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games held in the town of Fergus. The event has been held to celebrate everything Scottish since 1946 and now lasts three full days with massed pipe bands, concerts, highland dancing, highland games and of course whisky tasting. Truly something out of the ordinary to do during your vacation.
