Let's start with a few questions to narrow down your options.

Colorado National Monument is located near the small town of Fruita, Colorado, in the far western portion of the state. The nearest larger town is Grand Junction, at less than 15 miles to the east, while Denver, the state's capital, is about 250 miles to the east. In contrast, the border the state shares with neighboring Utah is only about 20 miles to the west.
This portion of Colorado is quite arid, consisting mostly of dry, open scrubland. You will also find several rocky, rugged canyons, some of which were cut by the mighty, Colorado River, herself. Fruita and Grand Junction are some of the larger towns found locally, so in addition to the many recreational activities offered by the park, you will also find restaurants, museums, and historical sites to explore.
