Getting Outdoors

Jackson Lake State Park has an off-highway vehicle track near the south entrance of the park. Camping at Jackson Lake State Park is a great way to ensure you are up and ready to hit the OHV track when it opens at eight o’clock in the morning. The track is a one-and-a-half mile loop that goes over rolling terrain and is designed to be easy for a novice rider. Before entering the track, your vehicle must be properly registered.

Jackson Lake is a great place to bring your watercraft and enjoy the open waters. Jet skiing is a great way to unwind and stay cool. Be sure your rental RV can accommodate a trailer for your jet skis, canoe, or kayak and head out for a weekend of camping and fun on the water. Jackson Lake State Park does require that the driver of a boat or jet skis must be at least 16 years old. The park offers a boating safety course for teens aged 14 and 15. Upon completing the course, they can then operate jet skis.

When camping at Jackson Lake State Park, bring along your fishing gear and relax on the lake. During waterfowl hunting season, all fishing in the park is restricted. Anglers aren't allowed to fish from the swim beaches. Review the park’s fishing guide before casting your line into Jackson Lake. The park frequently restocks the lake with warm-water fish such as catfish, perch, walleye, rainbow trout, and large and smallmouth bass.

Camping at Jackson Lake State Park

Time at state park RV campgrounds should be relaxing and memorable. Jackson Lake State Park offers more than 260 campsites, most of which are open year-round. Sites can accommodate rigs up to 60 feet long. All RV campsites (except for those at Fox Hills campground) have electric hookups. Additional amenities include restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, drinking water, and a dump station.

If RV camping at Jackson Lake State Park isn't your idea of fun, check out Country Comfort Motel and RV Park in Fort Morgan. The campsites at this RV park can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet long and has a six-foot privacy fence between each campsite. The sites also have 50-amp electric hookups with water and sewer.

If you'd prefer more modern conveniences to camping at Jackson Lake State Park, Greeley RV Park in Greeley offers a general store, exercise facility, arcade games, and video rentals. There's also a shower room, full hookups with electric, water, and sewer, and a laundromat. This RV park offers daily, weekly, and monthly rates.

Exploring the Area

While visiting the great state of Colorado, stop into Fort Collins and explore the Museum of Discovery. The museum's exhibits center on music, agriculture, science, and astronomy. The museum has hosted several national touring exhibits from National Geographic, Smithsonian, and American Museum of Natural History.

Drive over to Bellvue and visit Lory State Park and enjoy mountain biking and hiking. Pack a picnic and snap some picturesque photos of the breathtaking scenery of the foothills. The park is adjacent to Horsetooth Reservoir, and some of the park's trails wind down to the coves and bays of Horsetooth Reservoir. Lory State Park is just under two hours west of Jackson Lake State Park.

Bring the entire family and have a blast at the Greeley Family FunPlex, a recreation facility in Greeley, under an hour from Jackson Lake State Park. Cool off at the indoor pool and lazy river, or challenge someone in your camping crew to a game of mini golf. The FunPlex is located in Twin Rivers Community Park, so you can enjoy the park once you have explored all the FunPlex has to offer.

When you're all done camping at Jackson Lake State Park, steer your RV rental south toward the community of Wiggins. Here, you can refuel your rig before hitting I-76 to continue your road trip.
