Located just 15 miles north of Sterling, North Sterling State Park occupies 5,700 acres in Northeast Colorado. The state park was designated in 1992 and lies approximately 35 miles from Fleming. The park's major highlight is North Sterling Reservoir. Spanning 2,880 surface acres of water, this manmade reservoir was created in 1911 by damming the South Platte River. Previously known as Point of Rocks Reservoir, the original purpose of the North Sterling Reservoir was to provide irrigation water. Today, the reservoir has become a favored recreational spot for the great outdoor lovers.
