Scotts Bluff National Monument is located in far western Nebraska, in the panhandle portion of the state. The national monument is situated near the town of Gering, only about 20 miles east of the state border with Wyoming. The nearest larger town is Scottsbluff, found a short drive of about five miles to the northeast. The nearest larger city is Casper, WY, at almost 200 miles to the northwest.

Scotts Bluff National Monument is situated within the grasslands and rugged, badland formations that are common in this part of the state. The North Platt River forms the northern boundary of this attraction and has also helped to shape the nearby landscape. There are all sorts of outdoor recreational activities that can be enjoyed here, from hiking and picnic spots to scenic drives and stargazing. Getting Outdoors

The local river offers fun things to do of its own. Fishing is primarily enjoyed here, though there is also some swimming access, as well as places to put in a canoe or kayak.

The Robidoux RV Park is located just outside the boundaries of the monument. Campsites with hookups are offered, as is cable and WiFi. Bathrooms, showers, and a laundry room are also available for guests. The camp is open throughout the year and can accommodate both short and lengthy stays.

Captain Critters Country Campground sits on the north side of town. It provides full hookup sites, WiFi and welcomes pets. The campground is located just off of one of the main highways headed into town, so you can't miss it! Exploring the Area

It starts with the ancient tribes who first set foot in the region, and tells the story of the pioneers that followed. These locations also focus on the farming and ranching culture of the local area.

Because this part of the country is so rural, you sometimes have to drive a little way to visit some really interesting sites. One of these is Carhenge in Alliance, NE. This unique location was named after the Stonehenge archeological site in England. It offers numerous sculptures, all made of old cars and their parts. Walking paths allow visitors an up-close view of these artistic creations.
