RV Rental Guernsey State Park, WY

Get out and explore the great outdoors, as there are plenty of places to do while at this state park. Visitors can go hiking down the numerous trails that meander through the land. Most of the trails in this park are located on the western side of the Guernsey Reservoir and run a total of 14 miles. Each trail will provide unique views of the park and dam as well as local wildlife. To help prevent you from getting lost, there are a handful of trail kiosks located along each pathway so you’ll be able to see where you are.

Spend some time viewing the local wildlife. You’ll discover plenty of species to watch, like chipmunks, mule deer, and elk. In addition to this, the park is also home to multiple types of birds, like warblers and sparrows. During the summer, you’ll be able to see massive amounts of bluebirds nesting in the park.

There is also the opportunity to go fishing or swimming. Thanks to the park’s location next to the North Platte River and Guernsey Reservoir, you’ll find plenty of places to do so. When you plan to go fishing, the waterways are filled with species like yellow perch, walleye, and channel catfish. Keep in mind you do need a license in order to fish. There are three boat ramps available which are located at different spots around the river. For those who would like to go swimming, you can usually do so anywhere from April to September. The swimming areas are also lined by a large shoreline so you can rest on the beach or have a picnic.

When you book an RV in Platte County, you’ll be able to do some amazing camping at this state park. There are a total of 139 motorhome sites which are split up into 12 different campgrounds around the park. The campgrounds are open year-round and offer amenities such as electric, showers, fire rings, and playgrounds.

Pets are allowed to stay at the campground, but they must be kept on a leash at all times. They are also not allowed on the nearby beaches. Reservations are needed well in advance in order to stay here with your camper rental. Campers looking for a WiFi signal at these campgrounds won’t find it at their RV site. Instead, you’ll need to visit the park’s visitor center or museum to access it.

As you travel around the area with your camper rental, you’ll discover quite a few places you could stop by at. A quick drive away in Cheyenne is the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum. Created in 1978, the museum is believed to house the world’s largest outdoor rodeo. In fact, visitors can watch rodeo tournaments held throughout the year at the museum’s rodeo stadium. The museum also offers ranch tours and various exhibits which highlight Western art and the history of the rodeo. There’s also a small store that sells unique rodeo items.

A few minutes away from Guernsey State Park are the Guernsey Ruts. This State Historic Site features the preserved ruts made from wagons as they traveled the Oregon Trail. These ruts are believed to have been made in the mid-1800s and are thought to be some of the best-preserved wagon wheel trails on the Oregon Trail route.

Take your travel trailer on a two-hour drive to Casper to see the Fort Caspar Museum. This reconstructed 1865 military post allows visitors to tour an old military facility which was once an important spot during the Oregon Trail and for the Pony Express. In addition to learning about military history, the museum also showcases exhibits that tell more about Native Americans, the local energy industry, and ranching techniques.

There are two main gas stations located near this state park, which are located about ten minutes away from it. You’ll also find a few eateries nearby, and these range from comfort food to barbecue restaurants, some of which sell chuck wagon-style dishes.
