Fort Robinson State Park is situated in the northwestern corner of the state of Nebraska. It is located less than 30 miles from the border with South Dakota, and around 40 miles from the Wyoming state line. This is one of the most rural sections of a state that is known for being quite rural. The nearest town of any real substance is Chadron, NE, found around 20 miles to the west, while the nearest larger city is Rapid City, SD, which is more than 120 miles to the north.

This is a large state park, in a portion of the state that is surprising hilly, in comparison to the flatter, more agricultural sections the state is usually known for. You will find unique, badlands-like formations here. Numerous activities are available in this area, including water sports, trails for hiking, mountain biking and riding horses, camping and historical sites. The original Red Cloud Agency, where many members of local American Indian tribes were relocated in the late 1800's, was located on the grounds of what is now the State Park. That Agency was eventually moved north to South Dakota and became the Pine Ridge Reservation.
