The park's major highlight is North Sterling Reservoir. Spanning 2,880 surface acres of water, this manmade reservoir was created in 1911 by damming the South Platte River. Previously known as Point of Rocks Reservoir, the original purpose of the North Sterling Reservoir was to provide irrigation water. Today, the reservoir has become a favored recreational spot for the great outdoor lovers.
North Sterling State Park features prairies, grasslands, and bluffs. North Sterling Reservoir is popular with anglers, boaters, skiers, and swimmers.
