La Junta is located in the eastern part of Colorado, coincidentally the only part of Colorado that has no mountains. Although there are no mountains, the elevation is over 4,000 feet high, and there are plenty of exceptional parks to visit during your La Junta motorhome rental trip. John Martin Reservoir State Park is so close to town that you could practically walk there. The namesake of the park is a massive human-made lake created when the 100-foot-tall John Martin Dam was built. The lake is one of the largest in all of Colorado by volume, with several campgrounds scattered around its shores ensuring restful nights.

History lovers always appreciate Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site, a remnant of the Old Santa Fe Trail. This rebuilt fort was once home to fur trappers, traders, artisans, cowboys, and outlaws, a real mixing pot, to say the least. This beautiful fort by the river oozes history, and when you tour its grounds, you really get a feel for pioneer life back in the day.
