When it comes to watersports, the park is one of a kind. Apart from having two full-service marinas, boaters also get access to a couple of boat ramps. Some of the water-based activities here include good old sailing, motor-boating, and swimming. More adventurous folks can try out jet skiing, water tubing, and windsurfing. Swimming is allowed but only at the Rock Canyon Swim Beach.

If you don’t do well in water deeper than in a bathtub, there are lots of fun things to do on solid ground. The hiking trails are nothing short of superb. With more than 34 miles of trails to be enjoyed year-round, it doesn’t get any better.

Horseback riding is allowed but only along the Arkansas Point Trail System. Small game hunting is permitted during the season which starts after Labor Day, and the park is home to a staggering 340 plus picnic sites for the ultimate family experience.

Upon entering the park in your Pueblo camper rental, forget about the GPS and follow the road signs leading up to the campground. Once there, marvel at the campground’s large size and beauty before finding your way to your pull-thru or back-in site. The sites are fairly level and large so don’t be on edge about the length of your big rig.

The park has a total of about 390 campsites across the park, some of which feature electric hookups. All sites have a fire pit and a covered picnic area, not forgetting paved parking. The electric campgrounds have some extras which include dump stations, showers, and toilets. Unlike most state parks, pets are allowed, and if they’re nice and gentle, they can get to stay outside on a leash, but their owners should be on-site.

Water spigots are located throughout the parks, and guards patrol the campground so you can enjoy some peace of mind. While the park has a lot of sites, they are reservations only so be sure to book in advance online.

Speaking of location, the park could not have been set in a better place. Take this chance of a lifetime to tour the region in your rental RV and make some unforgettable memories. For starters, if the smell of race fuel excites you, be sure to spare some time for a drive up the legendary Pikes Peak. Surely you won’t be setting records in your campervan, but at least you’ll get to enjoy the drop-dead gorgeous views outside your windows.

Afterward, drop by nearby Colorado Springs for a chance to visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, a must if you’ve got the kids with you. After feeding some lettuce to the giraffes, pass by the Broadmoor Seven Falls and snap cool family selfies before going out for lunch at one of the fine dining establishments.

If time allows it, crank up your RV rental and leisurely cruise over to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Once here, rent a sled and board and hit the largest dunes in North America. Hours later, the kids will be begging you not to leave, so be sure you allocate a lot of time for this one.
