Lyons is only 15 miles from Boulder and about an hour’s drive from the ever-expanding metropolis of Denver. That being said, it’s far enough away from either of them that you can avoid the crowds, especially when visiting outside of peak season. Book an RV in Lyons and you’ll have the freedom to explore this unique part of the state, while also forgoing the sometimes pricey accommodations that would be found in the nearby cities.

Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the most visited and highly rated parks in the national park system, is just 20 scenic miles from Lyons. Many of the attractions in the area are centered on outdoor recreation, so be sure to bring your hiking boots and solid backpack for the Lyons RV rental adventure.

Discover Lyons

The Great Outdoors

It goes without saying that nearby Rocky Mountain National Park is the main attraction when it comes to outdoor recreation here. The 260,000-acre park has hundreds of miles of trails in addition to the nationally renowned scenic drives along Trail Ridge Road and Old Fall River Road. These roads are some of the highest in the national park system, looking out on expansive landscapes of alpine forests.

However, when you rent an RV in Lyons there’s quite a bit to enjoy closer to town too. Rabbit Mountain is just a few miles from Lyon and isn’t too difficult for inexperienced hikers or those not yet accustomed to the thinner air in Colorado. There are multiple ways to reach the top, but all are less than 2.5 miles one-way. Be aware that it’s quite rocky though, so you’ll need to be cautious and wear appropriate footwear.

Another great place to enjoy nature is Hall Ranch, just outside of town. Hiking, cycling, and horseback riding are all available here and there’s even a covered pavilion for having a picnic. If you don’t want to stray too far into the wilderness with the Lyons RV trailer rental, this would be an excellent choice.

RV Parks Near Lyons

Being so close to Rocky Mountain National Park, Lyons has quite a few great places to camping. One of the closest places to go camping with your Lyons travel trailer rental is LaVern M. Johnson Park in the middle of town. It has full hookups and a swimming hole on the North St. Vrain Creek.

The Countryside Inn and RV Park is a short drive away, in the town of Longmont. If you want to be close to attractions and amenities, its urban location can be convenient. The park has full hookups, coin-op laundry, along with picnic tables and barbeques for each site.

Another option, particularly if you’re visiting Rocky Mountain National Park, is Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Estes Park. It’s just outside the park’s eastern entrance and sites include full hookups (of just water and electricity if that’s what you’re looking for) and tons of activities including miniature golf, craft workshops, and karaoke events.

There is a Walmart in Longmont, and with store permission, you could stay for a night or two with the Lyons motorhome rental. It may require a bit of planning to find a convenient place to fuel up near Lyons as many of the service stations are small and lack a dump station. It will probably be best to fill up somewhere along Interstate 25, about a 30-minute drive away, where the fuel bays will be larger and easier to maneuver the Lyons camper rental.

Exploring the Town of Lyons

Lyons is a fairly small town and it doesn’t take too long to walk from one end to the other. However, packed into that small space are some great small town gems. Whether you’re a history lover, lover of great food and drink, or just someone looking to do a little shopping, there’s something for you to enjoy during your visit with the RV rental in Lyons.

If you’re interested in the history of Lyons, check out the Lyons Redstone Museum - a mishmash of everything historical from the town’s past. Exhibits range from an antique bank teller’s cage to arrowheads to a massive used book collection that’s available for purchase. It caters more to residents as artifacts are likely connected to their own family history in some way, but out-of-town visitors are sure to enjoy the sheer variety of what’s on display here.

Need a stiff drink? Stop into the distillery in town, where flights of rum, gin, and liqueurs are served, along with tours that explain how the liquors are made. Vintage video game lovers will also love the town’s arcade which is chock-full of great machines from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. Bring your quarters and go for the high score.

Around town, there are consignment stores with wide assortments of clothes, furniture, and knick-knacks that are sure to make a unique gift. If you have a quilter in your life though, be sure to peruse one of the quilt shops for fabrics, batiks, and vintage styles.
