Getting Outdoors

The star attraction of Rifle Falls State Park is its 70-foot triple waterfalls, which pour through a verdant landscape that seems almost tropical. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the Rifle Falls. Snap some selfies near the spray or chill at a shaded picnic area near the cascade. If you’re enticed by the idea of spelunking, go beneath the falls to explore the dark depths of numerous limestone caves.

The dramatic Rifle Falls is a magnificent and popular backdrop for events held at the park’s Mountain Mist Amphitheater, so if you’re looking to plan a motorhome camping trip around a special event, this state park is a unique place for guests to be entertained in a remarkable setting. Make your reservations far in advance as this sweet spot tends to book up quickly for weddings and other celebrations.

Another great way to make the most of your Rifle Falls State Park camping excursion is to take some time to hike around the park’s relatively easy nature trails which meander along the East Rifle Creek. This park offers a unique experience for anglers who can try their luck at trout fishing in the creek. You’ll also be just a short distance from neighboring Rifle Gap State Park where there are more opportunities for fishing as well as boating on the reservoir.

Camping at Rifle Falls State Park

If you’re looking for a place to camp in an RV near Rifle and the many attractions of Garfield County, Rifle Falls State Park is both a beautiful and convenient option. There are seven walk-in and 13 drive-in RV/tent campsites here that are nestled in the southern portion of the park along East Rifle Creek and are available year-round.

The RV sites include fire rings, picnic tables, and 30 amp electrical outlets. There are shared water hydrants featured throughout the park. You’re welcome to bring your pets as long as they’re on a leash and supervised. The campground is connected to the triple waterfall via a well-groomed hiking trail, so this is a perfect place to set up base camp if you want to have easy access to the park’s main focus.

Keep in mind that day-use parking is limited at this State Park and it does tend to fill up quickly and stay extra busy during the summer months, weekends, and holidays, so reserving a campsite in advance is definitely recommended. You might want to consider doing some RV camping at Rifle Falls State Park during the week if you’re hoping to beat the crowds. The booking window is from April through October. You’ll be able to make a reservation three days up to six months before your arrival. Sites with electric hookups are also available during the winter if you someone who prefers cold-season camping trips.
