Slow down. Take the scenic route. Get a little lost. This 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia was built for a different era of travel—one where the journey mattered as much as the destination. Instead of racing down the interstate, imagine winding along Maine's coastal roads, stopping at roadside lobster shacks, discovering small harbor towns, and camping beneath a sky full of stars. The Westy is more than transportation—it's part of the adventure. The iconic pop-top creates a cozy home base wherever you park, whether that's near Acadia, in the White Mountains, or at a quiet campground you've never heard of before. Make coffee in the morning air, read under the awning in the afternoon, and watch the sunset from a place you found simply because you decided to take the long way.A quick note for first-time Westy travelers: this is a vintage Volkswagen, not a modern RV. It has its own personality, quirks, and charm. It cruises happily on scenic roads and secondary highways rather than fast interstates, and it rewards drivers who embrace a slower pace. The controls are simple, the experience is analog, and that's exactly why people fall in love with these vans. What's includedThis Vanagon is our “Weekender” model, meaning it does not have a built-in stove, sink, or refrigerator. Instead, we’ve outfitted it with everything you need for simple, comfortable camping while keeping the interior open and spacious.Your rental includes:
• Portable camp cookstove and complementary fuel canister
• Yeti cooler
• Cookware, dishes, utensils, french press, mugs, and basic kitchen essentials.
• Bedding and pillows
• Bath and kitchen towels
• Camp chairs and other thoughtful camping extras
We’ve designed this setup to give you the classic Vanagon experience with the flexibility of a modern campsite kitchen.
Other things to noteAutomatic Transmission — No need to know how to drive a stick. Enjoy the classic Westfalia experience with the ease of an automatic. Please note that the van does not have air conditioning. Like all classic Vanagons, it relies on open windows, vent windows, and coastal breezes to stay comfortable.Stay powered off-grid with solar charging, USB ports, and a 120V household outlet for small electronics

Our family had a wonderful trip traveling up and down the coast of Maine in Justin & Liz's Westfalia. My wife and I, along with our two little ones, were comfortable spending 4 nights in the van as we traveled up to Acadia National Park, and explored along the way. Even before the booking was confirmed, and all along the way, the commination was exceptional. These folks put a lot of thought and effort into making sure the van was well-equipped with everything needed for a camping adventure. We flew in with essentially just our clothes and some headlamps. Everything else we needed was included! The van is not fast or modern, but that's kind of the point. We found it to be the best possible way to immerse ourselves in the journey. It definitely turns some heads also! We noticed multiple people taking pictures of the van along the way. You don't see many too many vans like this still running strong these days. Highly recommend the experience. Thanks again to Justin & Liz!

We’re Justin and Liz, based in southern Maine. We love a good road trip, a scenic hike, and finding a spot to unwind outside. Our favorite adventures usually involve good food, a little exploring, and saying “we should do this more often.”
