Ocala National Forest contains the largest contiguous sand pine scrub forest in the world and is home to more than 600 lakes, springs and rivers, so the potential for outdoor pursuits is endless, especially if you’re staying for several days with a camper rental in Altamonte Springs. There is a vast network of off-road trails for ATVs, 4WDs or jeeps, segments of the Florida Trail, 60 miles of the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway, cycling routes like the Paisley Woods Bicycle Trail, horse riding paths (like the LAM Equestrian Trail or Ocala One Hundred Mile Horse Trail), abundant bass fishing at Lakes George and Kerr, deer hunting, and other water-based activities like scuba diving, boating, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking. With the exception of Ocala's lakes, central Florida has abundant water resources, with some of the state's largest lakes just nearby. Lake Apopka is just a 40-minute drive to the west. Aiming north from there, the Harris Chain of Lakes should only be less than a 30-minute drive away. Lakes Jesup (known for its high concentration of alligators) and Monroe are also less than 30 minutes to the northeast by Altamonte Springs motorhome rental, and about an hour south lies Lake Tohopekaliga. Along with the Harris Chain of Lakes, “Lake Toho” is one of the best destinations to fish for trophy bass. A little farther south and you'll run into Lake Kissimmee where catfish, crappie, chain pickerel, largemouth bass and bluegill bite. Don't forget to look east to the Atlantic coast. Follow I-4 northeast and you'll reach the world-famous Daytona Beach and the thrills of the Daytona 500 in mid-February. Regardless of when you’re in town, you can always join an open-air tram speedway tour. You can also swing eastward toward the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral, or follow I-4 with your Altamonte Springs rental RV as it snakes southwest toward Tampa 100 miles away. A short drive west and you could be digging your heels in the white sand beaches of the Gulf coast.
