St. Cloud was founded in 1909 as a retirement community where Union Civil War veterans could pay $50 for 5-acre lots. If it weren’t for a man named Hamilton Disston, this city probably would have never taken off like it did. When he saw that the production of sugarcane was a big success in Southport, he brought it over to St. Cloud. The first sugar factory - St. Cloud Plantation at East Lake Tohopekaliga - took off, and finally, this growing city needed a name. Its namesake was suggested by Professor Bridges, the principal of Kissimmee High School. It was such a neat name that everyone unanimously agreed to keep it - and that is how the city of St. Cloud was born!

Within St. Cloud, you’ll be able to discover two and a half miles of lakefront views, along with an extensive parks program that has helped make and keep Osceola County beautiful and lively. St. Cloud is only one of two cities within Osceola County, and is now home to nearly 48,000 residents. Visitors enjoy the natural beauty of the area and also Historic Downtown St. Cloud. There’s lots to see and do, and the best way to experience it all is to rent an RV in Saint Cloud, Florida.

Lake Tohopekaliga and East Lake Tohopekaliga are two of the most popular places to visit in the area. Lake Tohopekaliga is the biggest lake in Osceola County, 42 total miles in circumference, but East Lake Tohopekaliga actually rests on the border of St. Cloud city limits. If you or anyone in the family is a fan of bass fishing or bird watching, these are the places to be. The name of these lakes may be a mouthful, but might be easier to appreciate when you understand the native meaning of the name, which is "we will gather together here.” So the next time you have to say “Tohopekaliga,” smile because what you’re actually saying is “we will gather together here.” Isn’t that beautiful?

Split Oak Forest is only 20 minutes away, and you can get to see what this area is known for - a 200-year-old live oak tree that was split down the middle and is still living!. This area has 7 miles of marked trails for you to hike and you can even go horseback riding here if you have a permit. If you’re wanting tackle more strenuous hiking, Triple N Range has a new 7.9 loop hiking trail and offers 4 to 8-hour hiking sessions - be sure to bring plenty of water, plenty of snacks, and maybe even binoculars to get a better look at all the wildlife that surrounds you here. If you’re looking to get lost (literally!) and you’re in the area during the Autumn months, explore the Partin Ranch Corn Maze. They have 2 mazes for you to try out, hayrides, pumpkin patches, great food, and more. These are all wonderful places that you don’t want to miss out on with your RV rental in St. Cloud, Florida.
