Homer is a small town in Banks County, Georgia, as well as the county seat. It was founded and named county seat in 1858 and incorporated the following year. It is home to a number of historical buildings, such as the Old Banks County Courthouse, built in 1863, and the Old Jail, built in 1880. Fort Hollingsworth, another historical site, was built in 1792 and converted into a farmhouse in 1860; the Blind Suzie Covered Bridge just outside of town is closed to traffic (foot and vehicles) but is a popular location for taking sunset pictures. Some local celebrities include baseball legend Ty Cobb, who was born at the Narrows in Banks County.
