Getting Outdoors

Though much of Lake Blackshear's eastern shoreline is occupied by private properties and holiday homes, its western banks have remained relatively untouched. In fact, with 97-miles of shoreline to explore, there is ample opportunity to get out and about on the water when you rent a camper near Lake Blackshear. With such expansive waters, boating is one of the most popular ways to explore the lake. Even better, there is no limit to what you can do on the lake! Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline-filled weekend of waterskiing or a relaxing few days of kayaking, it is all possible on Lake Blackshear! There are also several marinas peppered along the shoreline, many of which provide boat rental facilities and launch ramps.

When you have an RV rental near Lake Blackshear, don’t forget to bring your best fishing gear! With plenty of lucrative spots to choose from along the shoreline, including several fishing piers and secluded inlets, fishing at Lake Blackshear can be fun for the whole family. Species here include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, and catfish. For a chance to catch one of the trophy-sized fish that hide in the depths of the waters, head out on your boat into the middle of the lake.

Camping at Lake Blackshear is also the ideal gateway to a weekend of relaxation. Georgia Veterans State Park sits on the eastern banks of the lake and stretches across 1,000 acres of beautiful Georgian countryside. As well as a small swimming beach and day-use area, which are perfect for a day of sunbathing by the lake, several easy trails undulate through the park. A short nature trail also provides a 1-kilometer introduction to the area’s native flora and fauna.

Camping at Lake Blackshear

The Georgia Veteran State Park offers campers handy, lakeside spots to park up their RV rental for the night. This well-equipped campsite provides each of its 80 pitches with water and electricity hookups as well as free use of the onsite dump station. Outdoor enthusiasts will be able to revel in the open-air without venturing too far from their rental RV, as there are a boat ramp, swimming beach, and various hiking trails all within walking distance. What’s more, when you return from a day of hiking, hot showers will be awaiting you in the modern restrooms.

Travelers who prefer a more primitive approach to RV camping can head to the south end of Lake Blackshear to Killebrew Park. This small but charming campsite can accommodate up to ten rigs at a time of up to 40 feet. While each of the sites is equipped with water hookups, none have electricity, so make sure to bring your generator with you!
