Just 40 miles southwest of Cicero, this is the ideal place to park your rig if you?re planning on visiting the Chicagoland Speedway, which hosts popular events like the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The campground offers a shuttle service for guests who are interested in seeing the races. The Waterfall Glen County Forest Preserve and Des Plaines Dolomite Prairies Land and Water Reserve are both less than a half-hour drive away when you?re in the mood for more peaceful, verdant settings. Most RV sites are equipped with electrical hookups, and there?s also a dumping station available. Ice and water (both drinkable and for vehicles) is also free for guests.
When in Joliet, Illinois, it?s easy to be taken in by the abundance of places that allow petrolheads to let loose and get in as much of muscle cars and speeding as they possibly can, however, Joliet has another gem up her sleeve. The Rialto Square Theatre provides more than just arias and operas, as the productions are aimed at getting the whole family a glimpse at the wonders of the performing arts. Those who intend on staying in Joliet for a while may want to consider signing up for the membership program, which allows guests access to star treatment and a whole host of goodies and special events. The theatre is known to put on performances such as The Wizard of Oz, Teddy Bear Tea, The Sound of Music Interactive, and more. The theatre is also the ideal venue for those who wish to host a special event while in town.
Head southwest from Aurora on Interstate 70 for half an hour to find Yogi Bear?s Jellystone Park. This bustling RV park, campground, and woodland resort is bustling with activities, amenities, and planned programs to keep everyone in the family busy. Parents can relax by the hot tub and pool at this family-friendly venue while kids take part in a variety of planned activities. These include games and sports, arts and crafts sessions, and special themed events for holidays. The site is equipped for tents, trailers, and rigs of all sizes, and includes several with full hook-ups. You can also choose from a variety of cabins to rent, from deluxe to rustic, and there?s also even a full-size trailer model if you need more space for family and friends. Nearby attractions in Kendall County are also within easy reach of the park, such as Blackberry Farm?s Pioneer Village, Brookfield Zoo, and the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum.
If you are planning to explore Des Plaines in Illinois, the Blackwell Family Campground is the best and most convenient place to stay. It is in Wheaton, Illinois, and is just 20 miles away from Des Plaines. It is located in Blackwell Forest Preserve, a beautiful area with woods and a 62-acre lake called Silver Lake. You get electric hookup here, nice restrooms and showers, and a fire range and picnic table at each site. All of the 64 sites have shade and privacy. While staying here, you get the opportunity to use the forest's facilities. There are more than six miles of turf and limestone trails where you can hike, bike, ride a horse, and in the winter, cross-country ski. The trail around the McKee Marsh Area has two observational decks, from where you can watch birds and other wildlife. You can bring your own boat to the lake, as long as it's under 20 feet, or you can rent a rowboat, canoe, or kayak. If you enjoy fishing, you can take part in your favorite sport here on the lake. Bluegill, catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, northern pike, and rainbow trout can be caught. There are also two ponds where you can fish as well. In addition, there are plenty of picnic sites. The one downside to this campground is that it's only open on weekends, except for holiday weeks when it's open for the entire week.
