Head to the core of the Illinois Valley to the city of Peru for your next RV rental. Peru is a part of La Salle County and located right by the Illinois River. It’s connected to Interstate 39 and 80, and neighboring cities include Mendota, located less than 12 miles from town, Ottawa, about 13 miles away, and Princeton at about 16 miles from the city, and all easily accessible with your trailer rental from Peru. Forming the north-central part of Illinois, the terrain is hilly in parts, with miles of bluffs hanging over the rivers. Rich fertile lands of the valley, soy and corn are grown in the area.

Historically, Peru has been a busy steamboat port, thanks to its location by the Illinois River. The city also served as an industrial center with coal mining and the development of important transportation routes, making it a prime trade link in the area.

As you explore the area, enjoy Peru’s natural heritage, including towering bluffs, rivers and a slice of the city’s wonderful history.

The Great Outdoors

Once you book your RV rental in Peru, head towards the Starved Rock State Park. Located outside of Peru, it’s considered one of the best attractions in the state. Situated along the Illinois River, the park offers a number of canyons and cliffs formed out of St. Peter sandstone, making it perfect for hiking and trekking. With activities like hiking, boating, camping, ice climbing, trolley tours, and waterfalls, there is plenty to keep you busy. The waterfalls in the park start flowing in spring and after heavy rainfall, adding to the overall charm of the park. With geology dating back millions of years, the park has a number of sites that are of great archaeological significance, and worth checking out on your visit.

Consider including a visit to the Cedar Creek Ranch. Covering 60 acres of land, the ranch is about seven miles from Peru. Spend a day horseback riding through beautiful nature trails, join a motorized amphibious tour, or stop by at the petting zoo where you can feed the farm animals. A highlight of the Cedar Creek Ranch is the cowboy experience! Get transported to cowboy land with a cowboy meal cooked in the open, accompanied by live guitar music and campfire songs; a great way to end your day at the ranch.

About 38 miles from Peru on Route 26 is Marshall State Fish Wildlife Area. You’ll pass scenic surroundings as you drive your camper rental through the area. Located along 10 miles of the Illinois River are backwaters, bluffs, and bottomlands which are great for fishing, hiking, and camping.
