Camping at Clinton State Park

Clinton State Park has everything needed for a successful RV camping adventure. There are over 460 campsites spread throughout two campgrounds. Most of the sites are equipped with water and electric hookups. Sites vary in size, but some can accommodate trailers and RVs up to a maximum of 80 feet.

There are many available campsites to park your travel trailer rental from Lawrence when you come with your pets. This campground offers laundry facilities, water spigots, and shower houses. Each campground is equipped with a dump station, and most sites are wide with decent spacing between them.

This four-story museum at the University of Kansas showcases fossils exhibits of sea reptiles, dinosaurs, ancient fish and mammals. Also, on display are dioramas depicting mounted animals on their habitats. Its taxidermy museum houses a collection of insects, spiders, and snakes. There is a section dedicated to live animals such as bees and snakes.

Still, in Lawrence, Wakarusa River Valley Heritage Museum in Blooming East Park near Clinton Lake is worth exploring. This small museum preserves the history of the local community prior to civil war and that of Wakarusa Valley communities who were displaced during the construction of Clinton Lake in the 1970s. Family records, local historical artifacts, and the history of volunteers who rescued slaves through the underground railroad are also available in this museum. For museum enthusiasts, the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas Campers houses permanent and temporary exhibitions. Watkins Museum of History is another interesting local museum to consider visiting.

One thing that you must do while camping at Clinton State Park is to visit the Prairie Park Nature Center. This park is home to Mary's Lake and features wetlands, woodlands and prairie habitats. It is popular with wildlife viewers and birders. Deer, beavers, and bobcats are the primary animals spotted in this 100-acre park. There are a variety of birds to be seen when hiking the park trails including, bald eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. Mary’s Lake is also popular with anglers so don't forget your rod and reel.
