Lawrence is best-known for its proximity to two major Kansas lakes - Clinton Lake and Perry Lake. Clinton Lake is just outside of the city, and it's surrounded by four different parks managed by the county and the state. Clinton Lake State Park offers over 25 miles of trails, a boat launch, fishing areas, and even disc golf courses just minutes from the city. The other parks - Woodridge, Bloomington, and Rock Haven - also have access to hiking trails and swimming beaches.
RV Parks
After you find a camper rental in Lawrence, you'll be able to choose from a handful of RV parks surrounding the city. If you'd like to stay as close to Lawrence as possible, check out the Lawrence/Kansas City West KOA or the many RV campgrounds surrounding Clinton Lake. The Lawrence/Kansas City West KOA offers full hookups, a pool, Wi-Fi, and even a dog park. The RV campgrounds at Clinton Lake will take you a bit closer to nature. Clinton Lake State Park has over 300 RV-friendly sites available, and 200 of them offer electrical and water hookups. It also has basic amenities like a dump station, laundry facilities, and modern bathrooms. The Bloomington East area also offers RV-accessible campgrounds, but hookups are limited and facilities like showers are only located in the day use area.
Exploring the City
Lawrence is a small but lively college town, so you'll find plenty to do in the city. Lawrence has a small, vibrant downtown located in the center of the city near the Kansas River that has plenty of historical sites, local shops, and great restaurants. History buffs can head to the visitor's center across the river to map out a tour of the Civil War-era historical sites around the city, including buildings involved in the Underground Railroad. The Watkins Museum of History also offers a glimpse into the area's history, and the University of Kansas's Natural History Museum contains fascinating exhibits on the natural history of Kansas.
