History buffs making the journey to Vacationland are sure to be interested in the Maine State Museum just north of the Augusta/Gardiner KOA, in the capital city of Augusta. Here, you’ll be able to learn about the history of Maine and daily life in this pristine state. The museum also hosts rotating exhibits that also showcase the unique personality of the state. If you’re embarking on this campervan rental excursion with little ones, then you’ll be happy to know that Augusta is also home to the Children’s Discovery Museum. The children will be able to play in the pretend grocery store, learn about the Maine marine wildlife in the touch tank, and even enjoy making various arts and crafts. Those looking for a more quiet and reflective experience can travel west of the RV park to the Bates College Museum of Art. This beautiful art museum, on the campus of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, showcases work done by the students, local artists, and work that reflects the world around us. You’ll be able to learn about not only the Maine art scene but how the natural beauty of the state helped influence many local artists. During your stay at Augusta/Gardiner KOA, you will be pleased to know that there are plenty of gas stations nearby for when you need to refuel your camper rental. However, if you find yourself looking for a grocery store, you will have better luck heading towards one of the larger towns, such as Augusta or Lewiston. When enjoying your motorhome rental near Richmond, make sure you set yourself up with some fresh, locally caught lobster. This delicacy is sure to make your mouth water and give you a true taste of what being a "Mainer" is all about.
