This park is situated in the northern portion of New Hampshire, near the base of the White Mountains. The small town of Conway is found not far from the park's borders. The nearest large city is Portland, Maine, found around 60 miles to the southeast, while the state's capital, Concord, is located around 80 miles to the south.

The park consists mostly of forestland, and offers frequent, scenic views of the nearby Presidential Range. Activities available here include hiking, rock climbing, picnicking and winter sports. There is a lake found on site, and this, along with nearby rivers and streams, allow for additional recreational activities.

Getting Outdoors

Renting an RV, here, will give you the chance to experience all the great options the park has to offer. Echo Lake, the park's namesake, is found on-site. This is a prime area to enjoy fishing, swimming, and paddle sport activities. Beach access is available, as well. The park features an auto road that is around one mile in length. It leads to one of the main draws of the park, one of two large, rock ledges called Cathedral Ledge. This landmark, along with another ledge, called White Horse, is enjoyed for the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside that they offer. Ice and rock climbing are other activities available at these sites.

Hiking is another of the primary activities available at this site. Numerous trails snake through the park and are comprised of varying lengths and difficulty levels. They can be used to enjoy winter sports during the snowier months as well. Many can connect to form loops or intersect with other trails throughout the nearby national forest. Some of the trails consist of easy walks around the lake, while others include strenuous treks to the summits of nearby mountains.

Camping at Echo Lake State Park

Camping with an RV is not available at this specific park. However, there are plenty of campsites available around the nearby area that will make your stay enjoyable.

Glen Ellis Family Campground is located near the town of Bartlett, less than 10 miles from the park. The campground offers some riverfront sites and can accommodate RV's of varying sizes. This locale also offers bathrooms, shower, and laundry facilities. An on-site store and pool access are also provided.

The Saco River Camping Area is found less than five miles to the south, in North Conway. Numerous campsites, a playground, laundry, and camping facilities are provided at this campground as well. This site also offers bike, canoe and kayak rentals to help you enjoy the local surroundings. As this is a very scenic area, many people enjoy RV camping near Echo Lake State Park, so it shouldn't be a problem to locate the services you need.

Exploring the Area

After you book an RV in Carroll County, you will find plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy. The Conway Scenic Railroad departs from a historic train depot in North Conway. Various rides are available that offer scenic views of the surrounding mountains and forests. Some sunset, dinner, and holiday-themed trips are available as well. State park RV camping lets you explore all the unique sites found around the nearby region.

The Kancamagus Highway is a scenic drive available nearby. This is Route 112 that traverses the White Mountains from the town of Conway to Woodstock. Plenty of viewpoints are available for taking pictures and enjoying picnic lunches. Some hiking trailheads and recreational sites can be found along the way as well.

The Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center is also found nearby. This site is found at the top of Mount Washington, the tallest summit in the Northeast. It can be accessed by a toll road, though the drive is considered challenging. Reservations can be made with local tour companies that will take care of that part for you. The site offers picturesque views of the surrounding mountains as well as tours of the National Weather Service office that is situated at the summit. Some of the most extreme weather in the country can be experienced here, and this site helps to highlight that fact for visitors.

There are plenty of gas stations and grocery stores available nearby if you need to refresh your supplies. There are also several locally-owned restaurants that specialize in local fare if you're hungry.
