Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge, in the state of Maine, has several properties on the mainland coast plus several islands as part of its territory. Each of the properties has numerous diverse landscapes, including forest tree stands, coastal peatlands, barrens and swamps, and more. This diversity has attracted a wide range of wildlife; black ducks, pintail, green-winged teal, and mallards take refuge here while migrating south. They feed on the resident invertebrates and pockets of wild rice before continuing on.
When you head to Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge with your Steuben motorhome rental, bring the binoculars. Bald eagles are among the permanent residents who nest in the mainland park areas and on the islands, while seabirds nest solely on the islands. The areas of the park that provide nesting are closed to the public during nesting season.
Many of the bird species that reside here or pass through are considered endangered; some of the species are terns, Atlantic puffins, and razorbills. If you enjoy bird watching, this could be a golden opportunity; you can even park your RV rental near the park to use it as a blind while enjoying its creature comforts.

However, there are no docking facilities, and the weather can make disembarking and re-boarding difficult, possibly even dangerous.
Hunting is allowed with a select group of park areas during specific seasons. The approved game depends on the specific area but may include large game such as deer, smaller mammals, and migratory bird and waterfowl. Some areas of the park permit primitive camping and are maintained by a non-profit association; you can contact the park directly to obtain more information and dates about these areas.

For a small town, Gouldsboro has an interesting variety of attractions such as an estate winery and an art gallery, and shopping venues where you can browse through fusion art glass that has been made into table wear and window panes. One of the wineries has been here for a while and produces wine not from juice but instead from the original fruit before it has been juiced. The ingredients are sourced locally and from the mainland. The art gallery has a selection of old books in addition to its art and craftwork, all done by local artisans. Gouldsboro has a small but reliable restaurant scene in case you're starting to feel peckish; the selections include seafood venues, a deli, and one establishment serving Mexican cuisine. One of the seafood joints is located near a pier and has incredible dinnertime views.
