Discover Sebec Lake RV rentals for memorable road trips

Sebec Lake was formed around 12,000 years ago when the last great ice glacier scraped its way north as it retreated. While carving out great gouges in the earth, the glacier simultaneously dropped massive boulders and rocks at random locations. Though it’s suspected that there were Native Americans living around Sebec Lake area as early as 11,000 years ago, there is little in concrete proof. Remnants and artifacts from more recent Native American residents have been found, dating between 500 and 3,000 years ago. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the early 1800s and proceeded to harvest the old-growth timber and mine for ore.

Getting Outdoors

Ringed by mountains blanketed in a haze of soft green fir and hardwood timber, the glacial lake stretches a little over 20 miles. In a region called the Maine Highlands, the rich, natural landscape is home to thousands of wild animals, including moose, bear, and several species of deer. Dozens of fish swim within the lake’s dark, icy waters. Salmon fishing along with plentiful lake trout and smallmouth bass are excellent.

Camping at Sebec Lake

Skip the hotel and get closer to nature. Wake up to the sound of birdsong, which will be quite loud after a quiet night, and the sound of wind in the trees. Consider Peaks-Kenny State Park campground, which has 56 sites, some of which are lakefront. There is a restroom, and canoe and kayak rentals are available. However, the access road is shut during the winter months.

Exploring the Area

In the heart of Maine wilderness, as remote, as can be, it’s easy to think that there isn’t much to do when a break from the abundance of fresh air is needed. On the contrary! With the help of a rental motorhome, exploring the local mountain towns is a snap. Maine is well known for its quirky sense of humor as well as its laid-back approach to life. Dover-Foxcroft hosts several festivals and community events throughout the year, including its Whoopie Pie Festival, usually held in June, which draws thousands of attendants.

Had a great experience renting from Maine Campah Rentals. Unit was super clean, in great condition and perfect for our family of 4. Kids loved the bunk beds! Owner was flexible and easy to communicate. Would definitely rent from here again!
