Getting Outdoors

With Big Run State Park lying along the shores of Savage River Reservoir, it is no wonder that keen-eyed fishermen and women visit the park every year. As an impoundment of the Savage River, the reservoir frequently springs with new life every season. This fertile river and reservoir is home to a wide variety of freshwater fish species, perfect game fish for budding anglers. Those motorhome camping here can fish from the extensive shoreline, or take a fishing boat out on the reservoir itself. They can expect to catch largemouth bass, walleye, crappie, yellow perch, bluegill, and even record-breaking rainbow trout.

Camping at Big Run State Park

Big Run State Park RV campgrounds are hard to come by within the park itself, the state park campgrounds only offer dry camping, with little or no facilities available. This being said, there are a handful of RV parks and campgrounds within a short drive of the state park. Little Meadows Campground is just north of Big Run State Park and offers great RV camping amenities and facilities. 20 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups are provided here. Facilities include a dump station, shower block, flushing toilets, and picnic tables. There are also many pull-thru sites here, meaning all sizes of rigs are welcome here.

Exploring the Area

When campers have had their fill of the great outdoors, head to the nearby town of Frostburg. Frostburg is home to, among many things, the Thresher Carriage Museum. This museum plays host to a wide collection of exhibitions, showcasing the county’s heritage and history. Costumed tour guides will take visitors around this treasure chest of horse-drawn carriages and items from a bygone era. This is a must-visit for anyone in the Garret County area with an interest in local history and is an educational yet entertaining visit for everyone.

Drop off and pick up was a breeze. Jesse gave us a quick run down of the van and it was all we needed for a two night camping trip!

Murphy was so awesome to work with from the moment I first asked him about his van. I needed a safe way to stay for a couple of days to meet some of The Waltons cast who were coming to PA. I had my 2 dogs with me so a camper van made the most sense. Not only were his rates very reasonable but his expectations and requirements were outstanding. He did everything he could to make my time with his vehicle as accommodating and comfortable as he could. I came over prepared not expecting that kind of caring and in the end left many things in the trunk of my car cause he went above and beyond for my comforts.
I can not recommend Murphy enough. He even took a test drive with me to make sure I felt ok to drive it. It was much more of a vehicle than I was used to and I felt much more confident afterwards. Even though I didn't rent it to bike or do outdoor things like most of his renters do, it very much fit my needs and kept my dogs safe while I got to have fun. I can't thank Murphy enough for trusting me with it and believing in me.

A stress free experience. Brandon was was quick to respond to any questions I had and flexible with our needs. The RV was clean, had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Brandon is an honest person and generally speaking a good guy. The experience felt like I was borrowing a camper from a long time friend and not a stranger on a website I've never used before. This was my first RV rental and because of Brandon it was a very positive experience. If we go back to West Virginia again next year we will likely book our trip around the availability of this particular RV and owner. Thanks again, Brandon.
