Let's start with a few questions to narrow down your options.
The town of Freeland is located approximately halfway between Midland and Saginaw, two midsize cities in the heart of Michigan. Freeland’s story begins with the various Native American tribes who lived in Michigan for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. The land inhabited by the Potawatomi, Chippewa, and Ottawa tribes was ceded to the US government in the 1819 Treaty of Saginaw and was later used for lumber camps and outposts. The name for the newly founded settlement came from the name of Mammy Freeland, a business owner who had a popular tavern on the banks of the river where all the lumberjacks and traders would go.
