One of the most recommended parks near Neosho is Roaring River State Park. This state park features one of the most beautiful landscapes in Missouri with rocky cliffs and ravines surrounding the Roaring River. The river is perfect for fishing, and anglers travel from across the state to catch trout in these waters. While the river isn't ideal for swimming, there is a public swimming pool to cool of in after a long day exploring. If you want to explore the park's landscape, there are seven hiking trails that lead through wooded areas and along the top of the valley, providing scenic views. During your hike, keep an eye for the park's bird population, which includes ruby-throated hummingbird, green heron, and bald eagle. Neosho campers may also want to venture north and visit the historic Battle of Carthage State Historic Site. This park was the site of a Civil War battle, which is well-known as it was the first full-scale battle of the war. The area is relatively unchanged from the 1860s, and visitors can explore this historic meadow and see the remains of old encampments used by both the Confederate and Union armies. This riverside state park also features an informational plaque to help visitors learn more about the battle. Motorhome campers looking for a peaceful stroll in classic Missouri countryside should consider visiting Big Sugar Creek State Park. This park features grasslands and woodlands north of Big Sugar Creek. The park features several trails, including the three-mile-long Ozark Chinquapin Trail, which leads along the small stream and up hills towards fields. During this hike, nature watchers should keep an eye out for local flora and fauna, including scarlet tanagers, armadillos, and low prickly pear cactus. At the south end of the park is Big Sugar Creek, which is good for watersports, and visitors can rent kayaks from an onsite vendor.
