Discover Winnisquam Lake RV rentals for memorable road trips

Currently, the fourth-largest lake in New Hampshire, Winnisquam Lake encompasses a hair over 4,200 acres. Though the Native American tribes are long gone, their influence lingers. The tribe of Abenaki, an Algonquian offshoot, migrated to the area between the 16th and 18th century and back north to Quebec in summers. They gave Winnisquam Lake its name. The correct translation of Winnisquam is in dispute; however, the earliest known research, dated 1856, by a local historian indicates it means “beautiful water in a high place.”

Getting Outdoors

Roughly 10 miles long, Winnisquam Lake resembles a crescent moon with uneven edges. Save for a faint hum of traffic from a bridge crossing the lake; it’s hard to believe that small communities cluster around the shores of the lake. The dense tree cover hides homes and other structures, adding to the illusion of being surrounded by wilderness. Glide up toward the north end of the lake in a kayak or a small boat and cast a lure into the water, which teems with several species of fish. Both a warm-and cold-water fishery (depending on one’s location on the lake), anglers can expect to catch rainbow and lake trout, landlocked salmon, smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, and several others. Friendly bass tournaments are a regular occurrence on the lake.

Camping at Winnisquam Lake

Skip the stale air at hotels and wake up surrounded by nature in an RV rental. Though there’s no RV camping at Winnisquam Lake, there are a handful of other options within ten miles radius. Paugus Bay Campground in Weir, NH, feature over 100 RV sites, many of which have waterfront views.

Exploring the Area

Long before Abenaki Native Americans lived in the area, there were other people hunting and dwelling in this far-flung part of the country. 8,000-years-old artifacts, tools, and pottery shards have been found in what’s now called the Lochmere Archaeological Site.

The RV was fresh, clean, perfectly stocked and delivered in a very quick amount of time. Everything worked like it should and was very comfortable. If you have kids this camper would be amazing! The back area is a perfect place for kids to enjoy! Our hosts were amazing and explained everything we needed to know. The A/C and hot water systems are amazing for a camper. Bathroom is nice size and easy to get around.
