Sailboats fly by on blustery days, slowed only by choppy waves that act as nonstop speedbumps. In autumn, the low hills covered by maple, oak, aspen, and willow trees, transform into a fiery blaze that’s rivaled only by a bonfire, then they fade to a subdued sienna. In late fall, when the cold weather descends upon central New York, the leaves crumble and disappear underfoot.
