Getting Outdoors

The clear waters of Skaneateles Lake invite swimming, sailing and other water recreation. Because the lake is a water source for the surrounding towns, there are only a few public boat launches. Planning to bring a watercraft along on your motorhome camping trip? One of the lake’s few public boat launches is at West Lake Road, where there are two small docks. Another good place (with ample parking) is at the New York State Public Boat Launch, which is located along Route 41A about 2.5 miles from downtown Skaneateles.

Camping at Skaneateles Lake

After you search for an RV in Cortland County or the neighboring counties of Onandaga, and Cayuga, set a course for a nearby campground to sleep under the stars. The Finger Lakes district is a popular road trip destination, so camping with an RV in this region is easy and convenient.

Exploring the Area

When you’re ready to change the pace of your trip and soak up some classic New England culture, hop in your travel trailer and go stroll around the quaint streets of downtown Skaneateles, which is situated along the northern shores of the lake and lined with boutiques and a broad range of restaurants. Discover the rich history of this area -- many local buildings date back hundreds of years ago and are connected to the Underground Railroad.
