When you book an RV in Watauga County, stay at one of the many nearby motorhome campgrounds when visiting Elk Knob State Park. One option is the Boone KOA. Amenities provided at this camping spot include 50 amps, firewood, and water. There is also a pool and mini-golf course. This campground does have a motorhome length limit of 60-feet.

There’s also the Hitchin Post RV Park. This RV campground offers views of the nearby mountains and is often visited by a variety of wildlife, like deer. In Greensboro, visitors could stop by the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park. This park commemorates the Battle of Guilford that occurred on the grounds in 1781. While here, visitors will learn more about the significance of this battle, including how it eventually led to a victory for the United States during the Revolutionary War. There is a visitor center that contains exhibits highlighting the battle as well as an 18th-century farm site guests can walk to. Guided tours from late May to September are provided by the park.

Head over to Winston-Salem to explore the Old Salem Museums and Gardens. Situated inside a historic district, this attraction allows visitors to learn more about the Moravian community and how it changed the culture of the area. Old Salem Museums and Gardens feature restored structures that now serve as restaurants and shops. There is also a special handcrafts store that sells items created by the community, such as pottery, textiles, and painted gourds. For those looking for a unique experience while here, stop by the tavern, which serves traditional Moravian dishes.

While in Winston-Salem, take a quick trip over to Historic Bethabara Park. This park was also once settled by Moravians during the mid-1700s. Visitors can stop by the park where they’ll be able to view historic churches, houses, and barns. The grounds are also filled with flourishing gardens that grow flowers and vegetables during the spring and summer. When you’re done exploring the park, you could stop by its gift shop to buy locally-made goods, like lanterns and beeswax candles.
