Being so close to the millpond and swamp, Merchants Millpond State Park is a dream come true for avid anglers in North Carolina. Eager fishermen and women can set themselves upon the banks of the pond or take a boat out onto the water. The water is home to a wide verity of freshwater game fish and a handfull of rare primitive species. Merchants Millpond State Park campers can try out their angling skills by catching largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and sunfish. The rare long-nosed gar and bowfin also inhabit the waters.
Camping at Merchants Millpond State Park
Those RV camping at Merchants Millpond State Park will only find limited facilities for dry camping within the park itself. Campers need not worry too much as there RV accommodating campgrounds within a short drive of the state park. Rocky Hock Campground is only a short drive south from the park and offers an array of camping amenities and facilities. Full 20, 30, 50 amp electrical, water, and sewage hookups are provided here. Facilities at this campground include a dump station, flushing toilets, shower blocks, a laundry service, and RV storage units.
Exploring the Area
Much of the surrounding Gates County comprises of rural sites and seeing nature. If campers wish to explore more of the area and seek more exciting places, the Virginia city of Norfolk is only an hour’s drive north. When in Norfolk, be sure to pay a visit to the Chrysler Museum of Art. The museum is home to a wide range of art exhibitions, showcasing art from many eras and genres. Super clean camper ! Nice layout that accommodated our family very well. AC was super cold which is one of the big plus’s for us (we love cold rooms). Adam was very attentive and communicative with any and all questions we had. Definitely would rent from him again ! The camper made our vacation at Virginia Beach a hit.
