The Wright Brothers National Memorial is in Kill Devil Hills, NC. This is a small town on the Outer Banks, which is on the far eastern edge of the state. The nearest larger town is Kitty Hawk, which is a little more than five miles to the north, while the nearest larger city is Virginia Beach, VA, at around 90 miles to the north. The state's capital, Raleigh, NC, is over 200 miles to the west.
The Outer Banks is a small strip of land and islands that sits on the Atlantic Ocean. It is separated from the mainland by sounds, and most of it is all connected via bridges.
