Named for the nearby Alsea River, Alsea is a tiny community in picturesque Oregon. The Alsea River and the town of Alsea are both derived from the Alsi tribe of indigenous people that inhabit western Oregon. The town is considered an unincorporated area and has a few hundred citizens. Alsea was first settled by foreign settlers in the mid-19th century when people from out east walked the treacherous Oregon Trail to reach the paradise that is Willamette Valley in Oregon.

Alsea once benefitted from a thriving timber industry, but now primarily exists as a small stopping point between Interstate 5 and the magical Oregon coast. Tourism is the main draw now for the outdoors-minded village that is entirely draped in awe-inspiring scenery in every direction. Alsea is close to both Salem and Eugene, making it an excellent place to rent an RV. When you book an RV in Alsea, the ease of travel rises significantly, practically ensuring a wonderful, relaxing, stress-free vacation.

The Great Outdoors

One of the easiest parts of the Alsea RV rental vacation will be finding outdoor adventure. Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park is one of the most beloved parks in all of Oregon, located out on the rugged Pacific coast. The park was finished in 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps to create more public recreation land for residents of Oregon. Swimming in small lakes, all-terrain vehicle riding, fishing, and sandboarding down the dunes are some of the most commonly enjoyed activities you will see when you bring your Alsea camper rental to the coastal park. Directly adjacent to the state park is the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, with roughly 30,000 acres of land. Towering sand dunes over 500 feet high rise high above the ground at one of the largest expanses of coastal sand dunes in the entire world. These fascinating sand formations are the product of millions of years of erosion, and they happen to be nearly perfect for off-road vehicles and sand boarding. Hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and camping are all possible when you visit the park in your Alsea motorhome rental.

Down by Cape Arago, there are an astonishing four state parks grouped tightly together that you can visit for more coastal views of the Pacific. Gaze out on the ocean at sunset while you sit high above the water at Cape Arago State Park or Shore Acres State Park, or surf and swim at private beach coves in Sunset Bay State Park.

Mount Hood National Forest is one of the most widely visited places in all of Oregon. Mount Hood is a climbable giant but beware as summiting the mountain is difficult for even the most experienced climbers. There are lush alpine meadows overflowing with wildflowers, and temperate rainforests you can hike through on your way to the mountain. Simply camping out and basking in the peaceful embrace of nature with your Alsea camper rental is an option too.

RV Parks

If you haven’t already found a place to accommodate you and your Alsea luxury motorhome rental, there are some campgrounds to look into when you head towards the coast. Alsea River RV Park & Marina is one of the options, with breathtaking views of the river and two separate docks for personal watercraft. Swimming and fishing in the river helps to peacefully pass the day away, and there are laundry facilities, a rec room, and a horseshoe pit to use too.

You can take a trip to Taylor’s Landing RV Park & Marina, self-described as the “Fishing Capital of the Alsea River.” The park has sandy beaches, swimming areas, boat launches, and a diner on site.

Rovers RV Park is yet another riverside RV park, with lots of hiking trails and scenic areas teeming with migratory birds and other sorts of wildlife. You can go fishing or swimming in the river at this park, or run around with your dog in the off-leash meadows.

City Attractions

Alsea doesn't have any real attractions of its own, but it does have a few gas stations, shops, and eateries to choose from. For a broad range of attractions and restaurants, Corvallis and Eugene are no more than an hour's drive from town. Eugene, in particular, is a fantastic place to visit, with lots of museums and cultural institutions due to its status as a college town. Hult Center for the Performing Arts is a fabulous place to catch a live performance, with multiple local theater companies calling it home. The Silva Concert Hall also hosts performances, as does the Soreng Theater.

The Museum of Natural & Cultural History has interactive exhibits for people of all ages, with lots of insight into the natural and cultural history of the world. There are a wealth of fossilized skeletal remains and ancient artifacts dating back nearly 10,000 years, all of which you can see on a tour of the facility.

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is operated by the University of Oregon and features a stunning collection of paintings, sculptures, and photographs from all over the globe. The Asian Art collection alone is enough to make a visit to this museum worth the effort.

If art isn’t really your thing, maybe a trip to Autzen Stadium should be on the agenda. The stadium is also located on the University of Oregon campus and is absolutely electric on college game days. You can party in the parking lot while barbecuing in anticipation of the football game every fall, and see one of the most storied programs in college football history.
