Discover Crescent Lake RV rentals for memorable road trips

In the heart of Deschutes National Forest, far from civilization, Crescent Lake is a brilliant blue-green ringed by dense woods and high mountain peaks. Situated in Oregon, Crescent Lake is a surprisingly popular spot for adventurers, considering its distance from the closest town. Crescent Lake is a natural glacial lake that originally had a distinct crescent shape until it was dammed in 1922. The dam was constructed to raise its water levels to supplement downhill farms’ irrigation. The lake is just east of the world-famous Cascade Mountain Range, which often is snow-capped throughout the year.

Getting Outdoors

Tall fir and lodgepole pine trees lining the shores are dwarfed by the towering mountain peaks that surround Crescent Lake. The lake, resembling a half-moon, has soft sandy shores that are enjoyed by sunbathers and hikers alike. The alpine lake is chilly even in the peak summer. In spite of the icy water, swimmers and sailors enjoy embarking out into the glistening, crystal-clear water.

Camping at Crescent Lake

Far from hotels, it’s almost a requirement to rent an RV at Crescent Lake when visiting the area. Though tent-camping is possible, this area is notorious for heavy rainfall and pesky biting flies. Skip camping in a leaky tent and swatting bugs away all night long and camp in the comforts of an RV rental.

Exploring the Area

In this far-flung corner of Oregon, towns are few and far apart. Journeying from town to town in search of new and up-and-coming artists and crafters is made painless in a motorhome rental. KJ’s Cafe in Chemult is well-regarded for its classic diner fare and homey atmosphere. It’s a must-stop for many veteran visitors of Deschutes National Forest. La Pine and Bend together host several festivals throughout the year. La Pine is especially well known for its Frontier Days, held over the Fourth of July, which draws thousands of visitors. The festival’s events change from year to year, but it traditionally has a beard-beauty contest, men’s beautiful legs contest, and beer contest. The Cascade100 is a 100-mile race that has been held since 1999. The grueling 34-hour-long race held in sweltering August, and it passes through several mountain towns, Crescent included.

Nova was so amazing for our little island trip up the west coast and back down through the Malahat.
Justin was fantastic deal with and I would absolutely book again.

I explored the vast Olympic Peninsula in the trusty Mercedes Winnebago Revel that I rented from Ricardo in Port Townsend. The vehicle had been well maintained and was easy to maneuver, even for a petite 70-year-old female like me. I especially loved the digital rearview mirror that provided a clear, unobstructed view of the road and vehicles behind me. The portable induction stovetop saved a lot of time (heats up and cools down quickly) and stowed conveniently in an under-the-counter cubby. There were plenty of bins in which to securely store dry goods while on the road. I do wish there had been a drawer or two for clothing and personal items. However, under the bed (which electronically rises all the way to the ceiling, if wanted), there was space to store luggage and other large travel items. Once I arrived at each of my destinations, getting parked and settled in was a piece of cake. The lighted awning, window screens, and side and back door screens allowed in the sweet pine-scented breeze that most campers can’t get enough of. Restroom facilities at the campgrounds where I stayed were clean and convenient, so the cassette toilet was rarely used. The indoor shower seemed pretty cramped, so I opted for the outdoor hook-up, which meant a hot shower every time. Speaking of which, the water heater powered up very quickly for indoor and outdoor water use. The control panel for water pump, water heater, tank levels, battery use, and inverter was easy to navigate. Fortunately, for those times when pushing a button didn’t produce the result I wanted, I could (and did) consult the printed troubleshooting guide that Ricardo had included in the renter’s info binder. The first time I had to empty the gray water tank was less intimidating because I paired my handwritten notes scribbled during Ricardo’s van orientation with the printed matter. The one time I was stumped, I elected to text and then call Ricardo (thank goodness for a signal out in the boondocks), and he patiently walked me through resolution of the issue. He was a very gracious, generous (best home-baked blueberry muffins on the planet), thoughtful, and conscientious host. I will most definitely rent from him if I have the good fortune to be up in Port Townsend again.
