**This is a manual transmission**Throw back to the 70’s in “Sweet Pea”, a beautifully restored & updated 1972 VW camper that sleeps 4We purchased this bus as a fulfillment of a dream. After successfully hosting an apartment with Airbnb, we decided to bring our same 5 star service to people looking for adventure along the beautiful New England Coast. From Mystic Seaport along Rhode Island’s beautiful beaches all along the Cape, we are convinced that “Sweet Pea” will make for life long memories. The vehicle has an impeccably maintained drivetrain & a true pleasure to drive.Imagine an earlier time rambling along sandy back roads discovering new stretches of beach & quaint spots for ice cream before heading back to the campground for a relaxing night in our spacious well appointed camper! The interior has been meticulously restored & features a rear sofa that converts into a full sized bed for 2. The Pop Top has a full sized bunk which also sleeps 2. Sweet Pea now has a fridge/freezer!“Sweet Pea” is great if you:
Are not in a hurry
Enjoy “glamping” (glamorous camping)
Getting thumbs-up
Can appreciate taking things slowly
Enjoy strangers telling you their VW bus stories
“Sweet Pea” is terrible if you:
Are concerned about getting there on time
Want an indoor bathroom/shower
Expect to climb hills/bridges
Never look at dashboard gauges
Enjoy Power Steering (or power anything!)
Unfortunately due to the age of this vehicle, no children that require a child’s car seat.“Sweet Pea” has a RI State beach pass allowing for discounted parking at our state beaches. Please keep in mind, this is a 50 year old vehicle which was underpowered, without power steering and other modern amenities. It does require someone with very recent experience driving a manual transmission!See our other VW Camper “Elvis”!What's includedThe bus comes with a beach awning, collapsible kitchen with a dual burner Coleman stove, folding table & chairs. Fresh linens, towels, toiletries all included with your rental. Everything you could need for a vacation along the New England Coast. All of this is included in the cost - no extra add-ons. Brian was great. Met us in parking lot to let us get a chance to drive SweetPea a few blocks. We are not campers, and were taking the van to a music festival, so we had access to showers and port-o-potties, food and drink. The inside is built out with storage for most items. There is a cooler for ice, propane stove, "shower bag", coffee pot, pan, disposable utensils, folding chairs, mat. A new awning which attaches to rim of long side of van was great for shade. There is room for 2 adults - 1 up, one down. Thin foam mats (a bit hard on older hips and back) nice pillows and comfortors. You have to crawl up to upper sleep area. Not for older folks.
Driving: I drive a manual 6 speed sports car, and SweetPea was a challenge. Transmission needs a bit of work. Most folks are in a hurry, and SweetPea is not, so tolerating some honking from behind is important. Turns like an ocean liner, no power steering, so don't even think about parallel parking.
She is a conversation piece. Everyone wanted to stop and take a peek. Many had driven one as a 20-something in the 70s. Served its purpose for a few nights with great weather.

The hype is true. Brian goes above and beyond to ensure an enjoyable ride. He didn't mind my questions and gave all the necessary details I needed, so no surprises. Sweet Pea came fully equipped with clean, cozy bedding and camping necessities. I'm so glad I spent 4 days in this vanagan exploring Cape Cod and Narragansett, and I hope to do so again.

What an incredible experience I had with my daughter. Brian was so easy to deal with and gave us a walkthrough of all of this old van's features and quirks before setting out to Cape Cod for the long weekend. Don't rent this expecting it to be a polished driving experience -- it definitely was better on the side-roads than when we took it on the highway for a bit.
