Born near Limestone in 1876, David Crockett established a couple of businesses that later got washed away by floods. This prompted him to move to West Tennessee, where he got elected into congress. In March of 1836, he died in the Alamo Mission while helping the Texans fight for their independence from Mexico. The park has a museum depicting the life and times of David Crockett. When it comes to activities, the list of fun things to do here will put a smile on your face.

Getting Outdoors

Being home to the most visited park in America, the Great Smoky Mountains, it comes as no surprise that David Crockett State Park is bursting with activities. For starters, pack some hardy hiking boots into your RV rental as the hiking trails here are fantastic. With 10 miles of trails ranging from easy to moderate, the park is an excellent place for hikers of all skill levels to rack up some mileage. Sneaking through scenic forestland, the trails offer sublime views of Shoal Creek and the majestic Crockett Falls. Don’t worry about getting lost as the trail maps can be found online for you to printout before you arrive.

It’s almost impossible to speak of hiking without giving biking a mention. Hardcore mountain bikers will be disappointed as the park only has a paved cycling trail which offers good wildlife viewing opportunities. So, leave your power meters and energy gels in your motorhome rental and enjoy a smooth ride with the family. When it comes to birding, the park is a hotspot among the bird watching community. Primarily covered in pine, oak, and hickory trees, the park is the perfect place to view woodland birds as well as migrating birds during autumn and spring. Over 100 bird species have been spotted and identified. If lucky, you might get to spot one that’s not on the list.

Nothing beats an old fashioned boating experience. Lake Lindsay offers 35 acres of classic fishing opportunities on rowboats. Some of the fish you’ll hopefully catch are catfish, bass, and bluegill. Fish length and creel limits are indicated. Don’t worry about obtaining a rowboat as they’re rented out throughout the year at the park.

Camping at David Crockett State Park

If you plan to camp in an RV near David Crockett State Park, consider setting up camp at David Crockett State Park Campground. The best feature is the charming and rustic appearance of the campground. Apart from the fact that you’ll be enjoying some alone time in the wilderness, the town is just a stone-throw away. Like most state park campgrounds, they offer electric and water hookups on a combination of pull-thru and back-in lots for your rental RV. There is no WiFi, but you’ll have no trouble getting cellphone reception.

Some of the extra features include a playground, a swimming pool, and a little waterfall where you’ll be able to wade in. Additionally, guests get access to fire rings and picnic tables. There is also an Amish community a few miles away in Ethridge where one can buy some of their homemade goods as souvenirs.

Exploring the Area

After a couple of days in the state park, you’ll soon be venturing outside the park gates in search of new activities. You’ll not have to go far though as the area is quite interesting. The Lawrenceburg Golf and Country Club happens to be just across the street from the park. The course has a tough back nine, so you’ll get a chance to sharpen your skills.

If there’s one thing that is taken seriously in Lawrenceville, it has to be food. Why not visit a cozy restaurant and order a hearty serving of bulls-eye pasta followed by some tasty backwoods chicken. Round out your meal with a classy glass of wine or just crack up a cold one.

Should the weather get unbearable after you rent a camper at David Crockett State Park, find your way to the David Crockett Swimming Pool. Campers get access to a snack bar and a good number of lounge chairs. In the unlikely event that you’re on vacation together with dozens of friends, book a pool party and make some memories.
