Many attractions around Eagle Lake are located near Memphis. Sultana Disaster Museum is in Marion, AR, which is just northwest of Memphis. The museum commemorates the Sultana Disaster of April 27, 1865. Hundreds of travelers, many of them freed Union prisoners of war, were traveling north on a steamboat. The boiler blew, and around 1800 people died. It’s one of the worst maritime disasters in world history.
