When the Velasco Terminal Railway laid down tracks and built a depot in the heart of Brazoria County in 1890, a small settlement grew around the depot. In those days, it was traditional to name towns after railroad agents or prominent employees of a railroad company. A different town had already used the general manager’s name (which is unknown), and so the residents opted to name the town after his wife. Thus Angleton was born.
