Lake Fryer, named for a prominent pioneer and rancher, James T. Fryer, was dammed in 1953. The dam was constructed as a form of flood control for the rare spring storm and for the local ranchers’ cattle. The lake has since then evolved into a much-loved fishing hole.

The closest town to Lake Fryer is Perryton, TX, which has a grocery store and a handful of stores. The small town is about 20 miles northwest.
