Discover Lake Halbert RV rentals for memorable road trips
Created in 1920 to supply water to the nearby town as well as an industrial plant, Lake Halbert also evolved into one of those poorly-kept secret fishing spots that locals love to protect with a ferocity. Though it’s conveniently close to Corsicana, many visitors and locals tend to favor a larger lake just a few miles to the east called Richland Chambers Reservoir.

Getting Outdoors
As wide and open as the Texas sky, the land that shapes Lake Halbert is low and flat. The trees that line the shores are stunted and low, straggly but thick. Without much shade, the lake is dazzlingly bright, seemingly stained blue as it reflects the sky. Categorized as somewhat muddy, this lake is not suitable for largemouth bass and sunfish like many of the other neighboring lakes. In contrast, due to the aquatic vegetation that thrives along the inlets and coves like cattail, bulrush, reeds, hydrolea, and many other varietals, white crappie and flathead catfish thrive in this lake. They’re so abundant that they practically jump into boats just to get some space, local fishermen like to say.Due to the larger neighboring lakes drawing visitors away, fishing on Lake Halbert tends to be a quiet, solitary activity. As close to the city as this lake is, it’s quiet out on the water. Save for the sound of waves splashing up against the boat and the whisper of wind; the only sound is the occasional grunt as a nearby fisherman casts his lure into the water. There are a public boat ramp and a fishing pier maintained by the city of Corsicana. Of interest to some anglers is overnight fishing is permitted (for a nominal fee). Fish under the stars or take a nap being rocked gently by the low, lazy waves. Waterfowls, some permanent residents, others migratory, will be steadfast companions, particularly when bribed with treats.
Camping at Lake Halbert
When you rent an RV, be sure to figure out where you’ll park it while you hit the waters. Corsicana City maintains a grassy clearing upon in addition to a parking area which people can camp with RVs. However, amenities are barebone, with only restrooms for the campers.Sunset Cove Marina Campground & RV Park near Eureka, TX, has 22 RV sites, a boat ramp, and a small bait shop. It also has a small-craft rental service.American RV Park on the outskirts of Corsicana may also be an option. The facility features some modern amenities like WiFi, laundry and showers, and a rec room. Although there is no designated pet area, leashed dogs are permitted.
Exploring the Area
Farms and ranches blanket the wide-open Texas landscape, and under the vast blue sky, it can seem like it takes forever to travel anywhere interesting. With a rental motorhome, the long journey flies by in a blink of an eye. Many small towns honor their pioneer heritage by establishing museums that feature artifacts, photographs, maps, and other memorabilia. Corsicana takes it a step further with the Pioneer Village, which has genuine, original log cabins that once housed a general store, kitchen, and blacksmith shop. The Redden House, built-in 1860, has several original furnishings. Also on site is a museum that honors Lefty Frizzell, who many claims launched the country music industry in the 1920s.A visit to Texas is not complete without seeing the famous Texas bluebonnets, and Ennis, TX, is one of the best places to see them. Large lush green meadows burst in a sea of blue, virtually reflecting the sky. The best time to witness the sight is in April, and the town times their annual Bluebonnet Festival to coincide with the event. The festival draws local artisans, craftsmen, and other vendors and thousands of visitors descend upon the town to explore the offerings. Taco and barbecue trucks are fan favorites, though there are often other options to choose from.At any other time of the year, to find the best barbecue or Mexican meals, both of which Texas is well known for, it’ll be necessary to hop into a rental RV and explore far-flung towns. Jim’s Krispy Fried Chicken in Mexia dishes up finger-lickin’ fried chicken, catfish, and sweet rolls. The hole-in-wall restaurant is so popular that people will detour for miles around just to eat there.Whether your aim is a fishing excursion, quiet solitude, or to explore the wide-open country, you’ll find it in east Texas. Rent an RV with the family and make new memories to last a lifetime.
Great rental. Pickup was easy and very thorough walk through on setup. Everything was as advertised. Plenty of room for sleeping. A/C kept whole space cold. Super comfortable king bed. Would definitely rent again if needed.
