Montague is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in Montague County, Texas. It was established when the state of Texas donated land for the community in 1858. By 1880, it had several businesses, churches, and a school. At the time, the only flour and grist mills in the county were in Montague, but the town was isolated. Attempts to connect the town to Bowie with an independent rail line failed because of a lack of money and the city, which had become incorporated in 1886, voted to disincorporate in 1900. By the 1970s, highways had replaced the railroads, and the town began to grow once more.

Book an RV in Montague County, and you are ready to explore this historical area in comfort and style. There are other towns and cities that you should consider exploring too. Henrietta is the setting for a 1995 Clint Eastwood film, The Stars Fell on Henrietta. Gainesville is home to a number of famous actors, athletes, and musicians. Denton has one of the largest community gardens in the United States. Decatur is part of a slang phrase, “Eight from Decatur,” used by craps shooters hoping to will the dice into turning up an eight. Jacksboro was originally called Mesquiteville but was renamed when it became a county seat in 1858. Your Montague travel trailer rental is how you will explore and experience this historic area.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park is a combination of three distinct eco-regions, Eastern Cross Timbers, Blackland Prairie, and Grand Prairie. The area's geology was formed approximately sixty-five million years ago and consists mostly of sandstone with some shale and clay. As a result, there are more than 300 different species of plant life supporting the wildlife that lives in the oak forest stands and prairie grasslands. Visitors can hike or rollerblade, go biking or horseback riding, or enjoy any number of activities. The park is a wonderland for nature observing and photography; keep your Montague camper rental nearby, and you will have a custom made photography blind at your disposal complete with snacks and coffee.
