Discover Shiro RV rentals for memorable road trips

Shiro was formed as a railroad town at the beginning of the 20th century for the Burlington and Rock Island line. In its early days, Shiro was a transport hub for cattle and cotton being shipped to larger cities nearby but has declined in population since the 1950s. Most visitors today are simply taking a break on their way from the city of College Station to more easterly points like Houston’s northern suburbs and the recreational opportunities of Lake Conroe.

The Great Outdoors

Texas is one of the best states to visit if you love the outdoors as there are so many different ecosystems contained in one place. When you get a travel trailer rental in Shiro, one of the most popular places to enjoy nature is Lake Conroe. This 21,000-acre lake sees a lot of boat traffic during the summer months, both for its excellent fishing opportunities and open spaces for jet skiing and speed boating. The best spots for anglers are in the narrow fingers branching off the main channel, particularly on the northern end of the lake. Boat rentals are available in Houston and College Park to help you get out on the water.

RV Parks

The wide-open roads of Texas are always a favorite among RV travelers, so it should come as no surprise that there are a number of fantastic places to stay when you rent an RV here. Most are located near College Park, including one of the closest options, Karstens RV Resort. They have full hookups for your RV rental from Shiro along with a playground, a dog park, and a game room. It’s also far enough off the main road that you shouldn’t have to worry about excess noise from the highway.

Exploring the City

For a slightly macabre museum experience, make a stop at the Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville. The tour includes such favorites as a Bonnie and Clyde exhibit and an electric chair named Ol’ Sparky. If you’re at all squeamish, this might not be the place for you, as the museum pulls no punches when describing the horrors of the Texas Prison system in the early 20th century.

The RV trailer was spotless like new, with a spacious bathroom and every essential provided for a seamless weekend. (All external hook up items stored neatly in totes for customer use.) Jason gave us a clear demo, making setup and use stress free. Trailer towed smooth and quietly on our F150. We opted for the add-on service of water dumping service, which was EXACTLY the convenience we additionally preferred. A standout perk was the portable Bluetooth camera screen provided to us for safe towing viewing. Communication with Jason was quick, and we’ll definitely rent again. Perfect Airbnb on wheel!
