Let's start with a few questions to narrow down your options.

Weston Bend State Park is an important nature preserve, but not just because of its inherent beauty. The area is historically significant and was once the center of a tobacco and hemp industry that put the city of Weston on the map. Unfortunately, the damage caused by the Civil War, a series of town fires, and the shifting of the Missouri River away from the Weston port caused a decline in the city's fortune. Today, tobacco still plays a vital role in the local economy; when you visit the park, you'll see several old barns and an interpretive display that are symbolic of the area's past.
The terrain within the park varies between high ridges and stands of cottonwood, sycamore, and maple trees. The rich soil, due in part to the presence of the Missouri River, helps to create a vibrant natural setting that includes undergrowth and other plants. From one of the scenic overlooks, you can see over and past the Missouri River into the state of Kansas on the other side. You can also see Fort Leavenworth and the bottomland forest that surrounds it, and a panoramic view of the river itself, one of the best views of the river in the state.
